RADAR UNIT
Unit Supervisor: Sergeant Justin Daly
Unit Specialist(s): Officers Michael Tullercash and Edward Gallivan
Goals:
The goal of the radar unit is to identify problematic
area in town where speeding vehicles are an issue. Once an area has
been identified as problematic, the unit then devises a strategy to
reduce speeding vehicles in that area. The radar unit has two valuable
pieces of equipment to utilize in the effort to reduce speeding vehicles.
One tool we have is the radar trailer, also known as S.M.A.R.T., (Speed
Monitor Awareness Radar Trailer). This can be deployed to the problem
area. SMART is designed to make drivers aware of their current speed
via a large electronic monitor board that flashes your speed in bold
yellow numbers. SMART has proven to deter motorist from speeding. SMART
can be requested by clicking on the link below and filling in the necessary
information.
Another piece of equipment we have is the stealth radar box. The stealth
radar box is small radar unit we are able to secure to telephone poles
and conduct a traffic study. The stealth radar has the ability to count
the number of approaching and receding vehicles, document the speed
of the vehicles and the time the vehicle passed the radar unit. We are
able to gather and analyze valuable data from the stealth radar box.
The stealth radar box can be requested for traffic studies in your area
by clicking on the link below and providing the necessary information.
